Zelensky harshly reacted to the proposal to give a crime and reject NATO

Ukraine does not intend to recognize the temporarily occupied territories of Russia: this position remains unchanged and enshrined in Ukrainian legislation. The question of the country’s entrance to NATO depends directly on the consent of all participants in the Alliance.

“I would not like to discuss the statement of the president of the United States in detail now. But our position is clear and unchanged: only the Ukrainian people have the right to determine the affiliation of territories. According to the Constitution, all the temporarily occupied lands remain part of Ukraine. We will not recognize them by Russia or de facto or jure,” Zelensky emphasized.

He added that this point of view is based on both Ukrainian legislation and international law. In addition, the vast majority of the states of the world support this position. Even countries trying to maintain neutrality between kyiv and Moscow recognize the sovereignty of Ukraine, including Crimea.

The president also recalled that the Ukrainian delegation described his position on security and integration of the euro -atlantic during meetings in London with European partners.

“At this time, the issue of joining NATO does not depend not as much on Ukraine and the political will of all member countries. If there is a complete support of the alliance, we are ready for the next step, but so far this decision is not alone in our hands,” he said.

According to Zelensky, Ukraine continues to insist on reliable security guarantees, even from the United States. Kyiv expects these obligations to be as significant as agreements between the United States and Israel.

The president also emphasized the importance of European support: “We expect the presence of European partners. Even if we are not talking about a military contingent in our territory, we have the support of the United States, and this does not have to” boots on earth. “We are talking about the interaction of intelligence, cyber protection, modern air defense systems, as patriot. All this is critical for our defense.”

Remember that former president of the United States, Donald Trump, expressed the opinion that, within the framework of a peace agreement, Crimea can be recognized as Russian territory. According to him, Vladimir Zelensky supposedly understands this. Trump also commented on Ukraine’s desire to join NATO, connected it with the continuous war.
