Joy Huerta: “The current situation with immigrants is completely devastating” Entertainment in the United States

Joy Huerta comes from a family with a musical history that influenced his career. He began to appear in 2005 with his brother Jesse Huerta and quickly gained popularity on the Mexican and international music scene like Jesse & Joy. His music covers genres like pop, rock and ballads and captured the public with his emotional lyrics and catchy melodies. The duo released six studio albums, two live albums and one EP and won several awards, including Latin Grammy, Billboard Billboard of Latin Music and Lo Oours Awards.

However, joy is not only recognized as his musical talent, but also for his activism in favor of the rights and integration of LGBTQ+. Her sincerity and vulnerability in music made her deeply connect with the audience and influenced her music and her positive message in society. Today Joy hopes to achieve the same connection through his song for musicals Real women have curvesBased on the work of Josefina López and the film HBO with the same name (with the script Josefina López and George Lavoo). Broadway’s work will start the previous positions of 1 April at the James Earl Jones Theater Theater, before its premiere of the 27th month.

Ask. How to propose a song to write songs Real women have curves?

Response. At the end of 2019 I was contacted and after investigation with my wife I met with director Sergio Trujillo with Jack Noseworthy, Barry Weissler, Aci Parker and producers. But until recently I didn’t know the size of the project. At the time of the pandemic I had more time to see the film, enter the characters and the story of Josefina López. And because I have always written songs and theater is something new and different for me, I told them I wanted to write with someone, and there they brought Benjamin the tower, with which we made a dumbbell from the first day. And after five years I can’t believe we almost released.

P. Being a mother now, have you changed when writing songs?

R. Completely, for this project like Jesse & Joy. It has always been a responsibility to write and the message it carries, but now more because my children will listen to these songs, so I want to be in line with who I am, what I write and message.

P. The musical is social problems 80. years, many of which have not yet been solved. How do you react when you see the reality we live in?

R. One part cannot believe me and the other yes. The second says “We allowed this to reach the point where he is.” As a company, we have a great responsibility and I believe we have nothing more than now, we try to resist and solve. I am the mother of two small ones. We try to teach them that the world is not pink, but that there will always be peace in its core. And this peace must take it with them because they will be citizens of this world in a certain future. And it’s a future that I don’t want to let it cloud as it is today.

P. How do you work to get a better future for your children?

ON. Art is the best way I can contribute. I did it in other ways, but art has always seemed like a nice way to wear a message. Life gave me the opportunity to take it to another platform like a theater. And I appreciate it extremely because we knew that the musical had a strong topic because it happens at the age of 80. When art becomes life and life becomes art, they combine. I am proud of the material we put there and wait for the connection and clicking on someone to connect that we are all the same.

P. It has dual nationality and has been brought up between Mexico and the United States. What do you think about what is happening to immigrants in the United States?

R. The current situation is completely devastating. But at the same time, I think we have a very responsibility as a human being. You need to do a long work. The foundations are bad and there is a lot to fix. More than ever, I think there must be personal work before the assembly as a team. This means asking where I fail to reflect it so global.

P. What message would you send to young people who listen to their music?

R. My wife, in many other things, studied political sciences and foreign relations, and when I am very sad because the world starts to see very dark, it tells me that everything is cyclical and it always happens that things will improve very much. This is the only hope that I can give young people to say that we learn from it what we can correct, because eventually young people will sometimes vote and there is a great importance. We all have responsibility. And as citizens, this responsibility is to increase our voice in the necessary moments.
